How to upset a lot of people
you don't even know
You should keep in mind that for any given email list, there are at least three slightly different addresses, all of which point to different
places and all of which are meant for specific purposes. Some people who inhabit lists have a tendency to get upset when you
send LISTSERV commands to the list address, for instance, or you may wonder why that posting you mailed to LISTSERV
keeps coming back with notes like "Unknown command - 'HELLO'. Try HELP." The following information intended to help
you sort out these different addresses.
Note that per CAPR 110-1, paragraph 8, all email messages to this list must
include the name of the person involved in the communications and, as
applicable, their CAP rank or CAP position of employment. This identification
may be in the form of a return address or signature block which includes the
sender's identification as indicated above. Failure to properly identify
yourself may result in your removal from the list.
If you want to send a message to all the PEOPLE on the NHCAP-LIST mailing list, the right
email address to use is:
NHCAP-LIST@lists.mitre.org
If you want to send a COMMAND for the LISTSERV computer to execute, the right
email address is:
LISTSERV@lists.mitre.org
If you want to contact the person who owns the mailing list, the right email
address to use is:
NHCAP-LIST-Request@lists.mitre.org
Please note that if you send a message to the person who manages the mailing list you may receive a confirmation message that
begins like this (to remind you that it is not the right address to send commands to):
Your message to NHCAP-LIST-Request@lists.mitre.org has been forwarded to
the "list owners" (the people who manage the NHCAP-LIST)....
